Ball State University's Greening of the Campus VII
September 8, 2007 - Under the theme, "Partnering for Sustainability, Enabling a Diverse Future," Ball State University hosted its 7th annual Greening of the Campus conference September 6-8, the continuation of a conference series that dates from 1996.
Michael Shuman gave the plenary talk on Thursday, September 7, entitled "The Small-Mart Revolution: The Growing Power of Campus Economies." Mr. Shuman was introduced by Stan Keil, Associate Professor of Economics.
"As a university community, we have the opportunity to demonstrate the principles of sustainability through our actions - in the ways we construct our buildings, manage our grounds, and procure resources in service to our mission," said Terry King, Ball State Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. "Sustainability and more specifically green campus development offer the fertile ground from which our students can see the importance of the social, economic, and environmental factors that they will face upon graduation."
Plenary speakers included Chris O’Brien, director of the Responsible Purchasing Network at the Center for a New American Dream, and Eban Goodstein, project director for Focus the Nation and professor of economics at Lewis and Clark College, among others.
